But it was General Hideki Tojo, as Minister of War and then Prime Minister of Japan, who initiated the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor that drew the United States into the war. Tojo presided over the conquest of the Philippines, Singapore, British Malaya, and the Dutch East Indies and the subsequent losses at Midway and Guadalcanal. As the tides of war turned against Imperial Japan, Tojo resigned his post in 1944. He was hanged on December 23rd, 1948. Thank you very much for visiting my page. Your traffic alone helps support my small business, so I am very grateful for that.
